Is BT total broadband comptible with Mac? I want to connect wirelessly.?
I have an old emac (G4, OS 10.2) currently not connected to the internet. What parts would I need to buy for the Mac to make it wireless, and will the BT Home Hub detect it and work with it?
The internet speed needs to be OK (faster than old dial up) but doesn't need to be top speed for streaming video.
I have seen articles about needing an airport card, apparently these are now rare and expensive? Does anyone know a way around this. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Is your Mac from around 1992? I was looking at some specs and one problem is that it has - I think - old USB 1.1 ports, which would hinder a lot of external wireless adapters.
You are correct that the original Airport card has all but vanished, and unless your machine is from mid-2003 or later, it won't have the correct internal fitting for an Airport Extreme Card which is available now for around £40.
I don't think you can even fit a PCI adapter into your Mac.
All seems a bit unfair to me!
The BT Home Hub will certainly work with your Mac via a network cable and you would at least do this to setup the wireless networking! If you can get the hub sited close to the Mac, or run a longer length of cable, that would be your best option - basically to forget wireless.
