Why do the powered USB ports on the front of my computer not work?
I have a Dell Dimension XPS GEN 5 w/ two USB ports on the front and 5 on the back; I suspect that the ports in the back are not powered b/c I am trying to use an Xbox 460 controller, which requires powered USB ports. The USB ports on the front do not work for any devices now (e.g. 4 GB flash drive, which works on other ports). What might be wrong with them, and is there a solution or workaround (e.g. buy a Powered Usb Hub)? Thanks!
All the USB ports on your Dell should be powered. If the front ports are not working at all it's probably because the plug from those ports to your motherboard came out. There's a different connection to your front ports than your back ports. Unfortunately if you don't know how to open your case and plug the cord back in, then you'll probably have to call dell.
