Upgrading from 1.1 to 2.0 USB PCI card?...?
I bought a new 2.0 USB hub and a USB 2.0 PCI card for my system. (Got a new printer) The PCI card does not fit onto my motherboard because it has 4 ports on it; It physically won't fit. (I know, should have checked before I bought it!) I've looked online, and it seems like all of the USB PCI cards have ports on them. Am I just out of luck and will have to live with the low-speed, or do they make the cards without the ports? By the way, I have a Dell Dimension 2350 that is about 4 years old. Thanks!
I did call Dell, and the tech guy is the one who suggested I get this particular PCI card. Dell doesn't sell them yet, so I bought it at Circuit City. The Dell guy knew the specs of my computer and said it would be compatible and easy to install. Wrong! Could it be that my PC is just too old? Thanks!
By the way, it is the ports that are causing the problem. There is no room for them to fit on the motherboard, only a card.
You may need to get a low profile card instead of a full size card. Some of the Dell pc cases are too tight for a full size add-on card. I also don't see why you need a usb 2.0 add-on card because your Dell should have 2 usb ports in front, 4 usb ports in back that are usb 2 compliant. You also need to update win XP to service pack 1 or 2 to get the 2.0 usb drivers.
