Which is faster PCI-USB card or external USB hub?
I want to increase the USB ports on my computer. Which of the above two options will provide me better results and why ?
An internal PCI USB card is faster, of course.
A USB hub is still connected via only 1 USB port -- basically it splits 1 usb connection into 4 or more ports, hence the bandwidth becomes shared.
You won't notice the speed difference in most cases.
Also note that there are 2 kinds of USB hubs, one is the regular one and the other requires an external power source (AC adapter). The powered version allows you to connect USB devices that consume more power (e.g flash drives and USB drives) while the non powered version may only allow low powered USB devices.
