how to power 4 external hdd at once. in a custom enclosure?
I have 4 ide hard drives that i am looking to stuff in an old NES case. I figured i could use 4 ide to usb adapters which would work fine connected to a 4 Port Usb Hub. each of course individually formatted. What can i use as a power supply source? How many amps would it need?
You should be fine with a regular pc power supply.According to what I've read they require 5 to 15 watts each so I would guess a 100 watt supply would have no problem. I'm working on something along the same lines but ony 2 drives . you might check out a laptop ps if size is a problem. Also if you connect to pin 39 on the ide and connect the other led to I believe 5v you can install activity leds on them all. Do some research on HDD activity lights install, and you'll find the exact information. It should turn out nice. I did it because I felt my drives were running too hot in the aluminum cases...
