laptop /desktop netw work problems ,help?
can any one out here tell me in detail hoew to get both my IBM laptop//desktop online together?? Ive tried everything i know of . my laptop has a new DYNEX,NOTEBOOK CARD CONEECTED TO BUB ,PC IS ALSO CONECTED TO HUB .when laptop is on line ,desktop has no conection ,and vise versa ,pls explain in detail how to get these tow online together at the same time ,.many thanks in advance!!!!!!
It could be that you have the same IP address on both machines.
Check by going on each machine to Start; Run to get a command prompt and then type into the black screen " ipcongif " (without the inverted commas). The IPv4 address, format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is near the top of the output. (Some Operating systems it's "ipcfig" instead.)
If that is the problem then it depends on the network setup you are using how to solve it. If you are on fixed addresses your network administrator will need to give you a different address for the 2nd machine which goes in properties of TCP/IP under the Network Settings.
If you arr served by DHCP which automatically issues IP addresses then try " ipconfig /renew " on one of the machines which will refresh the IP address, hopefuly with a different one.
If it is a 'Hub' as opposed to a switch then you may need to your PCs to run Half Duplex. For this you need to find the configuration for the Network Interface on your PC and change the setting under Speed & Duplex to one with 'half'. Don't leave it like this for normal use though as it'll slow your network traffic.
